Details:Mrs. Brodnansky will be there from 3-4:30 this Sunday, October 12th. Please be on time! This den meeting is mandatory if your son is to complete the requirements for Arrow Of Light. Drinks and snacks provided. Webelos I den will be joining us.

Mrs. Brodnansky will be covering the following at the meeting:
  • #2 Explain First Aid
  • #4 Explain the Heimlich maneuver
  • #5 Hurry cases
  • #6 Treat Shock
  • #7 First aid for cuts, burns, choking, blisters, bites, etc.
If we have time, we will discuss Safe Swim rules (#8).

Fall Camp 2008

Summary:Firestone Boy Scout Camp in Brea
Details:Fall Camp has been decided. We will join scouts from all over the district at Firestone Boy Scout camp in Brea.

The Camp is October 24-26 and I am hoping to see all Cub Scouts in pack 922 in attendance. You can even bring the whole family! (If you are not going please submit a two page single spaced essay as to what could be possibly better than bb guns, archery, nature and crafts, not to mention the Saturday night campfire.) (Did I forget to mention pumpkin carving?)

We are going to let the Order of the Arrow Boy Scouts do the cooking for us so we do not even need to bring food.

The whole cost is $35.00 per person. That is $350.00 cheaper than the Ritz Carlton. Look at all the money you will save that weekend!

Food Collection

Summary:Collect Can Goods For The Needy
Details:This weekend we give back to the community by providing food for the needy at Thanksgiving time. We will collect food at the Ralph’s market this Saturday. Last year we collected 2785 pounds which we donated to the Sisters of Mercy organization. This year I am hoping we can collect over 3000 pounds. Please respond to Lee Smith our event coordinator on the attached e-mail.

This food will be distributed by the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Webelos Day Hike

Summary:Day hike with Troop 783
Details:Hi, everyone. Your sons will soon be graduating from cub scouts and bridging to a boy scout troop. To this end, the boy scouts troops in our area offer a day hike or some other activity so the boys can meet them and see which troop is the best fit for them.

Troop 783 has scheduled its Webelos Day Hike on November 9th (details below). A boy scout day activity is ALSO a requirement for the boys in order to get their Arrow of Light awards. They will also have to attend at least one troop meeting before the end of the year.

Please RSVP to Chip as soon as possible (no later than November 3) if you/your son are interested in participating so we can forward the boys' names to the troop.

Cub Scout Basic Leader Training

Pinewood Derby

Summary:Our exciting Pinewood Derby races take place midday on Sunday.
Details:This years Pinewood Derby is all set to run. Please be at check-in between 12:00 and 12:45 p.m. this Sunday January 11th, at the Soleado MPR. You must have your car weighed and checked in by 12:45 p.m. The rules are on our pack website. Please do not number your cars prior to registration. Your number will be assigned when checking in. The races start promptly at 1:00.

Details:Our monthly pack meeting is next Wednesday, January 14th. We will have a Bobcat/Bear ceremony, a fascinating aviation talk and video, and of course the Raingutter Regatta. Get those boats tuned up!

Winter camp
When:January 24-25 2009 - Saturday through Sunday

Summary:We leave Saturday morning at 8:30 for a one-night winter camping trip.
Details:It is supposed to snow Saturday and Sunday. Evening temps should be 24 degrees but feeling like 19. What a great time to go camping!

You will need your sleeping bags, cold weather gear, and toilet gear. We will be sleeping in cabins. Bring extra shoes and socks.

We will meet at Soleado parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning in class A uniforms. We will leave together and meet up before going up the mountain. If you wish to ride with others please let me know. The fewer cars the better. All cars will need chains. I have several groups of two. If you are planning on driving please submit your cdl number, insurance amounts eg 30/60/5, insurance company, car make and model. I need this information for the tour permits.

The cost per person is $50.00.

Blue & Gold Dinner

Summary:Skits, races, dinner and celebrating the birthday of scouting.
Details:Mark your calendars, February 7th, at 5:45 p.m. the doors open and at 6:00 p.m. the events start promptly. Wear your Class A (formal=you may wear your medals). I request all scouts and their families to be present for this birthday celebration of scouting. Be there to witness the graduation of our Webelos 2 scouts. Be there to put on the best skit ever with your den (all den leaders please send to Chip and myself the name of your skit.) Be there to share in all the fun! The dinner is at Barrett Hall, Saint John Fisher Catholic Church, at the top of the hill on Crenshaw Blvd. We will have special guest speakers, and guest ceremonialists.

Dinner tickets may still be purchased at the door for $5.00.

Order of the Arrow Boy Scouts will be leading the ceremony.

Community Service

Summary:On Saturday morning, we will perform our Community Service at Ridgecrest Intermediate School.
Details:This weekend come to the front of Ridgecrest Intermediate School for our yearly community service project. We will spend an hour with fellow scouts picking up trash, drinking hot chocolate, and having a great time. All ranks can get sign offs for community service and also the Leave No Trace Award. Uniform is class B.

Toying With Science in the Torrance Cultural Arts Center

Summary:Our pack will attend the Super Science Saturday program in Torrance.
Details:"Back by popular demand! Using juggling, original songs, household toys and audience participation, Garry Krinsky demonstrates science properties of fulcrums, levers and simple machines."

This program is recommended for ages 6-11.

This program is tied to elementary school science standards and is an hour long. All seats are general admission.

Tickets are $10 advance/$12 at the door.

Please know that if your schedule is not certain at this time, you can purchase your own tickets up to the day of the show. The box office is open two hours before show time. We'll meet 20 minutes prior to the show (10:40am ), in the patio area in front of the Armstrong Theatre, so we can sit together as a group.

Rocket Camp

Summary:Two nights of camping, with rockets!
Details:Please mark your calendars and let Dennis know via e-mail if you are coming to Rocket Camp April 3-5 at the Firestone Boy Scout Camp in Brea. This is two nights of camping with packs from all over Los Angeles, sharing in the high point of firing model rockets that the boys build. Food will again be served by the Order of the Arrow. The cost per camper is $25.00 for admittance with a rocket plus $17.00 for food. $37.00 for a great weekend. $18.00 per additional family member without a rocket, plus $17.00 for food. Please let me know as we must lock in our reservations.
